Aims and Goals of the Course:
Have an overview of an IVF cycle, going through the whole process, focusing on the main techniques and emphasizing important theoretical aspects. Understand fundamental principles of quality control, set-up management and work organization in an IVF lab. Have and intensive hands-on sessions in ICSI&IMSI, embryo and blastocyst vitrification & warming, assisted hatching and embryo transfer from the lab`s perspective. An opportunity to step back and take a time to deepen into the upgrade knowledge in our routine techniques and discover how to improve results just with few important tips and tricks.
Scientific Program:
Theoretical Sessions (30-45 min duration):
- “QC and QA in the IVF lab”
Hands-On Sessions:
- Oocyte and embryo handling using different types of pipetting devices
- ICSI: oocyte membrane breaking by pressure
- Overview of the different biopsy techniques
- Vitrification and warming of blastocysts
- Management of warmed embryos: Assisted hatching
- Embryo Transfer from the lab perspective
- How to handle a stable culture system
- Temperature measurements
- Disposables out-gassing
- Handle of media and oil: aliquoting, storage, preparation of dishes (the overlaid and underlaid methods) for gamete and embryo manipulation and culture
- Aseptic techniques for handling media, disposables, gametes and embryos
