Twice a year we offer a three days group course on “Blastocyst culture, biopsy and cryopreservation” of a maximum of 6 trainees. For such a course we count with the collaboration on Dr. Klaus Rink, developer of the Octax laser and with a wide experience in the application of the laser in the IVF filed, and Dr. Dagan Wells, actively involved in PGD for over 20 years.

BLASTOCYST CULTURE, BIOPSY AND CRYOPRESERVATION TECHNIQUES

AIMS AND GOALS OF THE COURSE:

Understand fundamental principles of blastocyst culture, biopsy, genetic diagnosis, and cryopreservation techniques. Overview of current experiences and outcomes around the world. How to setup and manage a successful Day-5 culture program. Have intensive hands-on in biopsy of blastocysts, cryopreservation after biopsy, laser assisted hatching and tubing of cells for genetic analysis.

SUMMARY OF THE SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM:

Theoretical Sessions:

  • Using Laser Technology in IVF procedures” by Klaus Rink, PhD
  • Current methods used for PGD and PGS: applications” by Dagan Wells, PhD (to be confirmed)

Hands on Sessions:

  • Preparation of biopsy and embryo culture dishes
  • Setting up of the microscope and the laser
  • Biopsy of early, expanded and fully hatched blastocysts using the “pulling” and the “flicking” techniques
  • Preparation of material for the tubing of the biopsied cells genetic analysis
  • Cryopreservation, thawing and culture of blastocysts after biopsy
  • Laser AH in thawed blastocysts
  • Unlimited samples of different developmental stage blastocysts (early and expanded blastocysts, hatching and fully hatched) and live demonstration for each case.
